Past
The legend of The Dragon King has fascinated people for ages. It is highly debated
whether he actually existed or if he was nothing more than an allegory,
but the one thing everyone seems to agree upon is that there is very
little concrete information upon him. Whether or not one believes that
he was a real being, they would be surprised to discover that not only
was he real but he was something they have believe to be nothing more
than pure fantasy. The truth of the Dragon King is this--He is a dragon
named Asija
Nadolny. It was clear from the moment he came into the world that he was
destined to be the king of all dragons. His lessons on how to rule his
people started from an early age, but in spite being a quick learner he
had no interested in his studies. Asija believed that if he was truly
meant to be The Dragon King that he would become just that. He wanted to
see the world beyond his people's border. He wished to interact with
the people of the other nations, but his guardians would hear nothing of
it.
They did everything within their powers to ensure that he focused all his time and attention upon his training. Eventually, he became fed up being kept inside a gilded cage and ran as far away from his homeland as possible. He became a wanderer, and feel more in love with the world with each passing day. He encountered many different beings of various alignments, but it didn't matter to him whether or not someone was regarded as good. Their mere existence only made the world that richer. However, nothing or anyone would compare to her--an angel by the name of Cira. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever laid his eyes upon. It was not just her looks that he found appealing, and it seemed that the attraction was mutual. The two of them became an item, and eventually they were married. However, neither told the truth of what they were to the other. They believed each other to be human.
There were many times he wished to tell Cira the truth, but he was afraid of her reaction. She might have felt the same way regarding the truth of what she was or she might have had a completely different reason for not telling him. Either way, the two of them lived a happily existence believing the other was only a mere mortal. They had several beautiful children and Asija wished that their lives could continue this way forever, but he knew that it couldn't. It would come to his lovely wife's attention that he didn't age, and whether or not she accepted him it would not change the fact that she would. However, the end to their fairy tale came sooner than he believed. She had gone away to deal with some business and left him to care for the children. This was something she had done many times, and while there were those whom might have felt emasculated by being left with such a task, Asija did not. He loved his children too much to find any insult over being left to be their sole provider and protector on multiple occasion.
Truth be told, the love he bore for his children were even greater than the one he had for his wife. They were the most important beings within the entire universe to him, and the idea that something happening to them was his worst nightmare. It was a horror that would become a reality. A demon came upon their happy little home, and slaughter all their children---expect for their youngest daughter whom the demon took away with him. Asija didn't know the reason behind the attack. Truth be told, he didn't care. His only concern was saving his children and he came to discover that he was powerless to do such a thing. He shouldn't have been. He should have been able to defeat the demon easily. He didn't stop to consider why. It didn't occur to him that the demon had known what he was and found a way to block his abilities. The only thing he thought about was his children's death being all his fault.
He sat next to their bodies for the longest time wishing for a death that would never come. It became clear that death would not come for a being such as he while they are being idle, and with that knowledge he left the scene of his greatest tragedy. It was not just a desire to find death that motive his departure, but also fear of the anger and hatred that he would find in his wife's eyes for failing to save their children. There was a part of him that thought he should stay and receive her judgement. It was what he deserve, but he didn't want her to be the one whom gave him the punishment he sought. He did not wish to taint her hands with any blood--let alone his. He returned to his people and told them that he wished to destroy the world. There was nothing worth saving out there. The dragons having not explored the world as Asija had found no reason to doubt his words, and even if they had they would have followed him without question. He was their king, after all.
The truth, however, was Asija had no desire to see the world burn. He still believed it to be a wondrous place filled with unparalleled beauty. It was his longing for death that cause him to declare the world unworthy of existing. He thought that if he made himself into a big enough monster that a hero would eventually come along and give him the death he sought. Chaos and destruction spread across the land until the hero he was hoping for came for him. Others had came before this hero, but they had proven incapable of defeating Asija. It was clear from the moment Asija engaged in battle with this hero that he was going to be the one. Their fight was long and challenging, but in the end it was the hero whom emerged the victor. Asija thought that this was it. This was the moment he had been waiting for---his death. However, instead of being killed Asija was turned into a stone statue and locked away.
It was here that Asija remained for years beyond counting. During this time Asija and the chaos he wrought was all but forgotten. Only a few scattered piece remained to tell people of his existence, but they were not enough to give anyone any true insight upon him. He might have remained a statue forever if it wasn't for the fact that a young woman came upon his harden form and somehow release him from his prison. He found himself waking up to a strange world vastly different from the one he remembers. He felt this overwhelming desire to explore this new world and see the wonders that it might hold. Surely, it was just as beautiful as the other. Yet, before he could ask the young woman whom released him from his prison to show him what this world he found himself within had to offer his desire for death seized him.
He believes that chaos and destruction will not grant him his wish. That is a path he tried once, and he is not the type of man whom keeps trying the same thing over and over again with the hope that it would work this time. Through, it was possible that it would work this time. Yet, he decided to try a different method. He decided that he would ask one of this strange new world's leader to kill him. Surely, one of them would have the ability. He asked the young woman whom broken the spell that held him as a statue to take him to her leader. He told her nothing of why he wished to speak to her leader, but there is no doubt she has her suspicions. Yet, there is one thing he has not thought of and that is with each passing day he comes to love his little human more and the desire to die fades. He is afraid of her reaction if she discovers the truth of the things he had done.
